![]() The map we got upon entering the park was useful to point out what we were looking at and what there was to see also where it was located. we stopped frequently to take photos of the red, brown, and white landscapes and enjoyed the pull outs and viewpoints. this is where the colors are at there best and most vivid. we entered from the main highway #70 going west from gallup nm, so we started with the painted forest part of the park first. Check before you go especially if you are planning on being there later in the day. Perhaps in the summer it closes at sunset. It should be noted that this park is NOT open 24 hours and when I was there it closed at 5PM. Did not stop for any of the longer trails due to time constraints. The north end was much prettier but more busy likely because it’s closer to the freeway. Went to Newspaper Rock but a lot of people were there too so again I just took a couple quick pics. Agate Bridge was a bit crowded so I took a quick picture and left. Did the walk at the Crystal Forest which had a lot of pretty colored logs. It’s at least a 24 mile drive from the south end to the north. It is possible I misread the signs when I drove past. It was down a ways from the parking lot past the larger gift shop. Looked like the Agate House and Long Logs trails were closed when I was there. Behind the museum was the Giant Logs trail going around some pretty big petrified logs. At that smaller gift shop I found the aforementioned shirt and also got a couple books. The indoor restrooms were closed and they had portapotties outside. They also had restrooms in the gift shop.Īt the museum, a lot was closed but they had some neat exhibits with dinosaurs and huge fossils found in the area. I kept one of the shirts to give as a gift, but returning the other one was a simple process which I appreciated. However, I found they did have my size at both the museum next door and at the visitor center on the north end of the park. The shirts they had were slightly too small but I bought them anyway. I went to the large gift shop first which had some neat items.
